With a 30-1 season record, the Mount Carroll boys' basketball team competed in the championship game of the IHSA Class A State Tournament March 15 in Peoria.

The team fought back from a 2-19 first quarter deficit against Chicago's Franciscan Hales to take the lead in the fourth quarter at 46-45 with 5:31 left. Unable to hold the lead, however, the Hawks, ranked second in the state, had to settle for second place with a 53-58 loss.

The team's fans made up the largest following in Class A history at Peoria and was awarded the Sportsmanship Award for the tournament.

First Impression Brings Family to Mount Carroll

"It was a beautiful, late spring day in May. The sun was rising, lighting the town in that early morning golden light. We stopped to have breakfast at a little café across the street from the County Courthouse... I fell in love with this place during the first hour of the first time I had ever been here."

Building a Foundation for the future

Mount Carroll Community Unit District #304 offers an excellent instructional program for grades Pre K through 12 and a variety of extra-curricular programs for junior high and high school students.

Mount Carroll schools operate on an annual budget of over $4 million funded by local, state, and federal sources.

Both elementary and secondary schools are accredited by the North Central Association of Schools & Colleges. We are a member of the Northwest Special Education Cooperative and of the Jo-Carroll Area Vocational Center in Elizabeth providing vocational/technical opportunities for juniors and seniors.

The district occupies two buildings: a new 70,000 sq. ft. Jr./Sr. High and an elementary (grades Pre K-6).
