Campbell Center plans for expansion

Metcalf Hall on the Campbell Center campus

Campbell Center for Historic Preservation Studies is making plans for increasing its course offerings and also to offer courses year around. Currently, the Center offers courses only in the warm months of May to October because the housing facilities do not have heating.

According to Director Kathy Cyr, plans are in progress to add heating to the two dormitory buildings and to revitalize the seven buildings on campus that are not currently used for anything. The plans include expanding the Center's course offerings as well as bringing in compatible organizations that can utilize the facilities.

The Center offers courses for museum officials, private practitioners, and those involved professionally in historic preservation, collections care, and the conservation of museum pieces. The courses run from one day to 10 days.

By using the entire campus and having a year-round operation, enrollment will increase and there will be a boost to the economic development of the area. New jobs will open up at the Center to maintain the buildings and operations, and more students will be in town to make purchases.

For more information on the facility, its course offerings, and for making donations, contact Cyr at 815-244-1173 or visit their Web site at www.campbellcenter.org.
